October 2009 - Halloween Special

This month our news letter comes to you early to give you plenty of notice if you want to come to our Halloween event which is being held on the 31st October.  This will be an event held at the park from 4:00pm until 8:00pm, and it will cost £3 for entry (however if you come in fancy dress you will get charged just £2.50).  This evening will be packed full of spooky fun for all ages with a handful of games in the reptile house where kids can win sweets, and also can get an opportunity to hold some of our "creepy" animals including snakes, lizards, spiders, scorpions and even crocodiles!

You will also have an opportunity to hear the sounds of some of our outdoor terrors as you take a pumpkin trail through our bird of prey area, but watch out because some of the staff change in to horrific monsters every Halloween and may be out along the trail to come after anyone who strays from the path...  So if you come down to our woods that day you can be sure of a spooky surprise!

This wouldn't be one of our usual news letters without some updates on what's been going on in the park, so here we go!  Our pair of Gibbons are now moved in to their massive enclosure next to our birds of prey, and they are swinging around stretching their arms and legs since coming out of quarantine.

A further new enclosure which has popped out of the ground near the reptiles house is a brand new outdoor enclosure for our 2 female racoons.  This enclosure has gone up very quickly and we are over the moon with the new enclosure design.  The enclosure is round and has very few areas which are obscured from view, and if the racoons are sitting in the right place it almost looks as if they are running free in the park!

In the reptile house we have some new enclosures ready opposite the leaf cutter ants which are a step in the right direction for what we have planned for the reptile house in the future!  Speaking of plans for the reptile house don't despair if you can't see some of our animals anymore because the whole building is getting re-vamped and during this time some of our animals have been taken off display.  We think that everyone will be very happy with the new layout and enclosure designs, and hope that this building work will not be ongoing for too long.

We are very happy with the rain which we have been having, and anyone who has been concerned about the birds on our top lake can breathe a huge sigh of relief because the lake is starting to fill up again now.  But we can assure you that we did everything we could to keep our birds comfortable during the incredibly hot and dry summer we have had at Wingham, and all of our birds have managed to get through the summer without any problems.

Many Thanks from

Everyone at Wingham Wildlife Park
